This year, 2007, thirty years have gone by since the Fundació Centre de Documentació Política (FCDP), with troubles and few resources, began the project of launching the Centre de Documentació Política de Catalunya.
Thirty years ago we began our work, in a situation where democratic freedom was lacking, in support of the struggle to recover democratic and national freedom. It was not until the end of 1976 and the beginning of 1977 that we we began to set up, under the name of CDP, what thirty years later was to be today's FCDP.
The process has been long, complicated and difficult, because what we wanted was to build an organisation with a profound sense of the country's political transversality and plurality. We wanted to be the Centre de Documentació Política (political documentation centre) for the whole of the Catalan parliamentary spectrum and for all its institutions.
Thirty years later, here we are. Our services reach the Parliament and all the groups there, the Generalitat government, each and every one of its departments, all the political parties with parliamentary representation, the main trade unions and a large number of public institutions.
Our services are aimed exclusively at Catalonia's national institutions. We have foregone the private sector because of our close ties, through our board of governors, with the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) and with the Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona Provincial Corporation), thanks to whom we have been able to answer the technological challenge which has made it possible to place the FCDP in a leading position in press and political documentation services. |
We realise we are special, as nowhere in Spain can an institution like the FCDP be found, with the same level of political transversality and plurality as us. This has been possible thanks to the trust placed in us by our national institutions, who have valued our services and our professionalism.
For 2007 we have set our sights on a new goal: to consolidate our technological leap and, at the same time, to lay the foundations for the centre de Documentació Política de Catalunya so as to bring continuity to our project, with the same wish to serve as when we founded it.
As president of the FCDP, I undertake on my behalf and that of the team making up our institution, to confront the challenge of this new digital age of changes in communications media so that our institutions can have access to the services they require.
